Yup, £30-£35 is the standard price.

I'm not sure if the Staples offer at £29.99 is for 3-user version though?

Please be aware that a lot of IT professionals believe that Norton Internet Security causes a lot more problems than it fixes. Leo Laporte, for example, is an a very respected American guy who hosts a tech helpline phone in. He says he gets more calls about Norton related issues than anything else. Here is a link to recent shownotes from his show :-

I don't want to tell people what they can and can't buy but felt it only fair to share the views of a lot of people in the know. There is plenty of free software available that does a better job than Norton such as AVG and ZoneAlarm - it just takes a little bit more installation but won't slow your PC down anywhere near as much.

My personal opinion - I would go nowhere near Norton. Its more of a recognised brand name which is why people go for it but its not worth what you pay for.

I second Bulwer's comments on the excellent free versions

For Antivirus, I personally use AVG. Its a excellent tool that has served me well over the years. Auto updates can be done automatically on startup (recommended). They have also introduced free antisyware as well. The other antispyware I use is XOFTSpy.
The other good antivirus is Avast which I use on another laptop.

For a firewall, I do not like Zone Alarm because I have had problems with it - something to do with their vector graphics. It is nice but more hassle than its worth so I stick with something called Sygate Personal firewall. They have stopped releasing that but u can still find it at filehippo. Sygate is another one of my recommendations.

In fact if u go to filehippo you will find downloads for lots of other useful software.

And to clean your computer from junk you build up, I recommend using CCCleaner (also available to download from there - its free!!!)

Don't spend five pounds to dry clean a shirt. Donate it to the charity shop instead. They'll clean it and put it on a hanger. Next morning buy it back for two pounds.

We've recently swopped from Norton to Avast - I thoroughly recommend Avast - and as soon as the swop over occurred, the Avast picked up two viruses that had been lodged away in the recesses of our PC. Norton's not bad, but IMO it is very over-rated, esp. when compared to a free one like Avast/AVG. They're going to have to do a lot of work to make me reconsider Norton.
The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.

i'll add my two pence worth.

    steer well clear.

I've had so many people ask me why their machine is so slow. its quite simple. Norton is a terrible program, resource hungry.

Download AVG Free, Ensure Windows Firewall is on and you have Windows Defender and provided your sensible on line you shouldnt have any problems.

Many Barclays customers can download F-Secure (2 year subscription) for free:

    http://www.personal.barclays.co.uk/BRC1/jsp/brccontrol?site=pfs&task=homefreegroup&value=10123&target=_self

(If that link doesn't work, just log in to online banking and click on 'Security Advice' in the left-hand list.)

Also, I think that BT Total Broadband customers can get Norton for free as part of the BT Yahoo Online Protection system...

I personally use a combination of AVG, Windows Firewall, Firefox (with a couple of plug-ins), Spybot and Adaware -all of that, plus the built-in firewall on my modem/router mean that I'm relatively safe...Although I do understand why many people trust big companies like Norton, as it's easier to get tech support, big brand 'trust'( ), etc, etc...
