I'm never growing Swiss chard again

Vinca. I hate the stuff. The previous owners of our house planted some as ground cover. 2 years later I am still trying to get rid of it. Initially it took 6 months of weedkiller and smothering it with black plastic to kill most of it. But still little shoots keep coming up everywhere...
I love crocosmia - I don't seem to have a problem with it spreading. One of my pots of crocosmia died over the winter so I had to buy some more.
We should swap: i like vinca!!!Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -
THe thing I hate the most is possibly crocosmia - just the normal orange one, i can't eradicate it at all, drop a wee bulb and it comes back with avengence.
I have 2 patches of crocosmia and I happen to like them
I just keep them in check by pulling out any strands that grow where I don't want them.0 -
I love acquiligia - mine don't seem to self set too much and the flowers are so pretty that even if they did I wouldn't have the heart to pull them up. I'm quite fond of crocosmia too. Even my bamboo is going back into the border, albeit in a restraining bucket.
In fact, the only plant I can think of that I don't like at all are conifers. At some point in the past someone put two in at the bottom of the garden and they are now 40 feet tall, shade most of my veg patch and have made the bottom 10-15 feet of my garden so dry and unusable that I've just abandoned it. I wouldn't mind so much if they were like next door's weeping willow or fruit trees; at least they have some decorative purpose. Conifers are just sort of, well, green and pointy.

Don't get me wrong, i like crocosmia especially the more unusual ones, late summer colour etc. but in my garden it is everywhere, it's coming up through the paving stones, the previous people must have loved it. THey did have it all along the back fence and it was a stunning display when in flower, but we need that area for our fruit and veg.
Just thought of something else I hate - potentilla - I hate its small prissy little flowers and the woodiness of it - irrational I knowJust call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -
Just thought of something else I hate- bloomin grass!
If I didn't have kids I might get rid of it!
It takes so much work not to say chemicals and hideously power inefficient machines to keep it looking decent, it grows into your borders, into you paving. In fact it grows everywhere except where you want it.
Front lawns what's the point of them, eh?Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -

My mum has nothing but flowers and borders in her front garden and it looks beautiful. The Estate Agents which valued the house a few weeks ago said that the way the garden is laid out would lower the house price as people don't want complicated beautiful gardens, they want boring simple grass which they can ignore.
How sad is that?

Jerusalem artichokes...aarrgghh:mad:
We planted some thinking it sounded a bit different. Nightmare to clean and prepare and gave us wind:o Dug the whole lot out in the end...or so we thought!!! Now pops up all over the place. Just how do you get rid of the stuff apart from going over the whole garden with a flamethrower and nasty chemicals!!???0 -
I love crocosmia personally and actually had to buy some as noone I knew was overrun!!
I also love swiss chard as it is beautiful steamed as part of a Sunday Dinner with yummy garlic gravy. Very spinachy and good for you. I grow the bright lights variety.
I do have a plant that I inherited and I don't know what it is but blimey it is spreading like the clappers. I shall let it flower, see where it looks good and then RoundUp the rest (or dig it up and sell it on the carboot!)!!!3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Spanish Bluebells and Grape Hyacinths - stupid things get everywhere and short of repeated chemical warfare there's seemingly no stopping them. They've even managed to pop up in two foot tall planters on the patio!
Just about eliminated them in the old house - moved and have another load here! Now where did I put that Glyphosate!Adventure before Dementia!0 -
Ah yes grape hyacinths have migrated into my tarmac on the drive now too. I love them nut not there!3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!
