12000 to pay off in a year!!!

I have set myself the challenge of paying off £12000 worth of debt by the end of 2013. It's a huge amount of money to find and seems impossible now but I'm pretty sure that we can do it if we really try!
I'm doing overtime on my first job, picked up a second job, DH is doing overtime and were having a huge clear out and will sell all that on either eBay or at carboots. I'm also going to go through the DVD and cd collections to see what we can flog to music magpie. I've got loads of odd earrings and broken necklaces as well that I can sell, and also quite a few old mobiles floating Round that we can sell as well.
My second job pays me £350 a month and all of that is goi g straight on to our debt, as is hubby's overtime. I'm estimating that we can pay off at least £700 a month and hopefully more. And that's just from wages, not including what I can make for selling things! Wish me luck!
I will update this weekly with what we have paid off that week as DH is paid weekly! Hopefully we can do it!!!

Big challenge, but stick to it and the time will soon go and you're £12k less in debt!

We have paid off £300 off debts this week! Quite impressed with that! Only £11700 to go now!
We're looking at getting a 0% card to pay off some of the higher interest debts. We may owe a lot but have never missed a repayment and Accordding to credit expert we have good credit ratings so I can't see it being to difficult. I would never have even known to consider this if it hasn't been for this website so glad about that! Would take a considerable amount off our debts if we could do this, even if it is just transfering the balance of our current cards.
I've also been quite frugal with what I've brought on our food shop this week and I'm on a major cost cutting mission. I'm going to make every meal from scratch. Made lasagne today and it cost me a lot less to make the sauce myself, and wasn't that hard! Started making my own bread as well, costs about 45p a loaf instead of the £1.20 in the shops! Should notice the difference in our shopping bills soon and that money canbe transferred onto debts!
Christmas shopping is now finished which is a relief! Done that in the cheap this year! Means that other than a big food shop, all my wages can go onto debts! Could potentially be paying another 500 off debts next week, possibly even more!starting debt of £16000

Hi MaisieMog
Can I join you?. I have 17k to pay off, but if I can kill off 12k next year then I am nearly there.
Sounds like a great amount you are throwing at your debts. If we can do it this month (The most expensive month of the year!!) then sure we can manage it the rest of the year.
Good to hear someone else has discovered how much cheaper it is to bake your own bread. I put a loaf on every night and then make the packed lunches with it in the morning. Its the perfect size for our family of four. Alot more healthy as well. I do 50:50 white & brown flour to sneak good stuff into the kids.
I have subscribed to your diary and look forward to following your journey :T0
