Wanted - Denon DF 103 Micro system £999!

My husband is extremely fussy re stereo equipment. He listens to a lot of "weird" music (my words not his :-)) like Santana and Robin Trower and likes to be able to adjust the bass and treble. A lot of the recordings are old converted into CD format.

We went looking for a new stereo as our CD player section had dies and its too expensive to get fixed and its all a mess so we thought maybe a new system. After hours (literally) of looking the one with best sound and depth to deal with his music and mine (also weird as in John Surnam and New age stuff etc) is the Denon but it is £999 from John Lewis. We looked on line and did find it cheaper but the websites we looked at dont have top rated reviews (only 2 or 3 stars out of 5) and if were going to buy it we would like it backed up with good service etc in case of any problems.

Does anyone know a good webiste or better still shop that does good prices on Denon? We have a Technics at the moment but cant find any shops locally to look at to try them out (and boy do we try them out!) but nearly every system we look at has "automatic bass/treble adjustment" which is useless for my husband as he has perfect pitch and is a real pain and needs to adjust it to meet his requirements not someone who has defined it and preprogrammed a system.

Any advice of buying it for les would be greatly appreciated.....system is Denon DF 103 Micro System....

My sister was looking at a Denon system a few years ago, they used to be difficult to find back then. Cleartone in bolton sold them (now Empire direct) so try their site. maybe richer sounds?

I do know that the highstreet sellers like dixons and currys have started to sell some higher end kit like denon.

The best I could find was Superfi.co.uk for £599.95. It is a very new system so discounted prices will be few and far between. I was also able to find them for about £730, £660 at empire
