Brake discs/pads - East Belfast Garages

After a servicing a few months ago a certain Garage give us a quote for 4 brake pads and labour for a crazy price! Anyways needless to say I didn't go with the garage's assessment of the situation and the fact that it was debatable from another garage just how early the brake discs needed replacing and the back ones probably didn't need it all. Anyways as its winter I think it would be wise to replace them so can anyone recommend anywhere in the East Belfast region. I have seen some garages on Upper Newtonards Road (Peacocks?) and there is a Chris Adams near us. Can anyone recommend either of these or a different garage?

    You need to elaborate Indo77?

is it brake discs and pads 2 or 4? (fitted together)

    or pads only 4 (front) & (4rear) ?

Brake discs are more expensive than pads

Are they quoting you for genuine Manufacturer Discs or approved copies???

How many miles are on the discs, are they the originals that came on the car?

Mechanic might be erring on the safe side and quoting you for the heap, that's why the big difference in price

Any competent mechanic can fit, so you don't need a main dealer service

Vehicle dependant as well as parts for 1 car are dearer for another etc... You'd nned to elaborate a bit more on how much was quoted & for what exactly as said above.

If its for a BMW then I'd recommend Lewis down at BM Spares in Ards.
I've just had 4 Discs, Pads, Sensors, Shoes & a FSR done & dusted on an X5 for £370

The car is a New Style Megane. It has approximately 60000 miles. A garage,we got to look at it since service said it probably only needed pads and front ones at that though not sure if would need all done. The cheaper garage was possibly not genuine parts.

The garage where we got the car serviced, my wife took the car too, and to be honest I think were hoping she would just agree to getting the work done even if it needed done or not.

I have just looked up the original paper work, they told her on phone they would do brake pads on some offer for 1p, front brake discs £282.80 and back ones £295.80. Maybe this is the norm??????

Brake pads for 1p?, Nonesense you will pay a fortune to get them fitted?

It will possibly need new front Discs, unlikely rear ones at 60,000 miles

£282 are probably Renault discs. You can get perfectly good Euro parts discs a lot cheaper and will be just as good

Take it to a good independent garage such as

    JM Motors (Joe or Sam)
    Unit 10
    Quarry Heights
    Newtownards, BT23 7SZ
    Phone: 028 91810088

I don't know the ins and outs of cars but I do know I have used John Peacock's for over 12 years and have always found him to be honest and reliable.
  • Please please don't just do work to your car because "its winter".
If anything safety related needs done, do it when it needs done.

By the way, I have always done my own work, cars, vans, lorries, and paying the guts of £600 for front and rear discs for a Megane reminds me why.
Fitting brake discs is a very basic job.

As others have said, get them from a motor factors or independent garage, don't worry about not using "genuine" parts. If you still have warranty, so long as the garage doing the work is VAT registered it is unaffected.

Discs? Go to the scrappies and get them for next to nothing. They take them out of insurance write-offs and they're good as new.

Get your pads done in a budget garage - it only takes about 20 minutes for a front set.
