Glad I caught this thread as I was thinking of buying the same toy for my little boy a month ago but thought twice about it as I dont like the thought of battery operated toys in the bath,(even thought I had a battery operated scuba diver in my days) and the fact that it did look really flimsy, maybe they should have had some kind of wind-up function on it?.
I agree that it must have been frightening to your kid when you noticed it was leaking and I'm glad that no injuries was caused.
Hope everything gets sorted out.I hate migraines.0 -
You rang an ASDA representative to report to them that a toy they were selling was a possible danger to children. No matter what you said on the phone they should have picked out that there was a potentialy serious problem with the product - and leaking water into the battery compartment of a bath toy is a serious problem.
You also shouldn't have to do an analysis of the type of battery you are putting in, and MikeLB, how often do you use remote control while submerging it in the bath - these toys are designed to be used in water around small children!!!!
This should have been escalated up the management chain within hours and the product pulled.
If you work in any job at all, you accept the contract offered at the agreed rate of pay. If that means people ring you up and hurl abuse at you all day then so be it. You are being paid for it - as you agreed!!. It may not be your dream job - unlucky - your being paid to deal with it! I don't give a monkeys if it's your first day or last or if the last person you spoke to was horrible.
And I agree with the OP, being offered the standard 'here you are we won't do anything except give you this to shut you up gift' as part of a speech just exagerated how little the person is listening to you or has the power to do anything. The OP didn't care about the few quid for the toy, more his child touching or drinking battery acid!!0 -

This is a quote from the op that the call center staff member said:
"I'll pass it onto my manager and report it to the store"
Nice to see you read it properly!
Perhaps that would have been a good idea before blasting on about how call center staff should do their jobs and what they've agreed to!
Also getting the product pulled WOULD NOT have been something the call centre operator personally could have done.0 -
I would be enraged if any of my children had been put at risk like this, and c/s should have more thought for the feelings of worried customers. She should have at least sounded concerned, said she would report this to a manager straight away, and not mentioned compensation at such an early stage. Looks like she wanted the matter closed without delay and fuss, I agree no-where near good enough treatment. You may swear and even spit all you like Idle:T:jDabbler in all things moneysaving.Master of none:o

Have you tried plugging it into the mains? there would be less chance it leaking and who knows, if you stick your tongue in, it might stop it flapping as much.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

1. can we please stop call centre staff bashing?????
2. can we please stop asda customer service desk staff bashing???
what a lot of people on here seem to forget is in supermarkets you are often left to deal with someone who is treated like dirt by their manager and paid little money, have you ever heard of walking a mile in the other mans shoes? If at first you do succeed, try not to look astonished.

Yeah, what a great idea. Electrocute a 2 year old in the process. :rolleyes:This country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down0 -
Sorry but it not customers' fault they are underpaid - everyone has the option to gain extra qualifications and better their chances of improved pay. Why on earth should this fact be reflected in their attitude. If you don't like the pay, don't take the job.
I get so peed off when I hear people making excuses for "underpaid" staff. A good attitude should not be comparable with your pay!
The poster had a justifiable complaint.
I agree with you totally but a lot of others on here won't - especially the ones who work in CS themselves and think customers are totally evil beingsDon't grow up. Its a trap!
Peace, love and labradors!0 -

They do it because it's easier to critisize. The ironic thing is they don't care about the above as been mentioned by a few people in posts above but want you to drop everything when it comes to them. It's quiet a good definition of selfish!
A call center menber of staff will have the job to answer one call then the next then the next etc. But people will make it up what they have to do ie organize products recalls, speak to suppliers just to suit their argument of 'the call center member of staff didn't do anything' even if they've been told it will be passed onto their manager and store.0
