Company overpayment

Options
Hi again,

When I left my company back in January they managed to over pay me more than 1000ukp. I stuck it into a different account so it didn't get swallowed whole never to be seen again  and waited for them to realise (I figured it could help with a bit of interest in the mean time).

Well, they contacted me a few weeks back and asked for it back. After getting over the disappointment that they'd remembered ;) I asked hubby to transfer the money back to me (it's in one of his accounts) and then promptly forgot all about it (as did he).

Now I've got a letter from a debt collector saying that the company has no wish to issue proceedings in this matter and can I pay within 14 days (very polite).

My question is - will this show up on my credit report (I've used up all my free goes to get the report - so just wondered if anyone would know off the top of their head).

TIA,
Brassic

I doubt that it will show up on any Credit Reference Agency - they haven't taken you to court, and you have not defaulted on a credit agreement.
Whilst the initial mistake was made by your, then, employer, you will still have to pay it back, but you could make an offer to pay by instalments.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

No, if it was a simple letter from the employer it won;t have any impact on your credit score.

I would advise paying it to them ASAP though as if they feel you are a high risk they will have no hesitation in filing a claim with the small claims court and that will have an impact.

Well done you for setting it aside though, I'm a payroll manager and I've seen people spend mmoney that they know isn't theirs and get into real financial difficulty when the employers come chasing for the money.

    It's very unpleasant all round!
