in Cutting tax
I work in construction and I'm a sole trader within the CIS (Construction Industry Scheme).
I was going to attempt my SA myself this year to see if I could save myself the agents fee.
Has anyone any experience of using the HMRC helplines and if so how helpful are they?
I have been deducted 18% from contractor already and usually have an overpayment of around £1400 to receive from hmrc.
I know what expenses I have but I'm not sure if my agent has put in capital allowances and at what rate.
Would I be better to leave this in the hands of the experts.
Any advice appreciated, thanks.

You can also make an appointment to see a Tax Inspector at your local office who will also see you FREE of charge!
They will help you to complete your SA and teach you what goes where.
I have done this for a number of years and have got to know my tax man quite well!0
