Nationwide Hidden Credit Checks

Options
Hi,

I recently applied for a personal loan with Nationwide through their online form, where it was made very clear that their "soft check" calculator for APR and loan monthly repayments WOULD NOT (stated clearly) incur a credit check - this was confirmed when I phoned their head office today and spoke to an advisor - until you clicked "submit" whereby you are agreeing to the credit check.

I also have an Experian account and am able to check my credit check notes and lo and behold I have been credit checked TWICE by Nationwide for this loan even though the "soft check" clearly stated I would not be! My credit score has gone from 933 to 849!

Nationwide was not authorised to carry out these checks but they did anyway - anyone else had this problem? If they have can they repost this because Nationwide need to be picked up for it! They are getting an earful from me on Monday but I wanted to make anyone else planning to go online for this type of personal loan aware - they will credit check you even though they say they won't!!

Disgruntled user,
Jamie

  • Does it say Quotation in the search type?

Searched By: NATIONWIDE BUILDING SOCIETY Application Type: Credit Card Quotation

Don't rely on anything I write as it may be wrong!!!
  • Hi,
No - it said "calculate" after I put in my details and then at the bottom of the page "submit" which was labelled as the credit check acceptance
  • If they are definitely Hard Searches and you didn't actually apply for the loan then query the searches with Experian as well.

You've misunderstood the question, which was...

Is one of the Experian searches marked as a quotation search on your Experian file?...or are both marked as "credit search: loan application"? Or maybe one of the is marked "ID verification" (or similar)?

Haha as if they have done that. They'll be quotes and nothing more unless you clicked on the apply button after getting the quote on the website.

Oh and ignore your credit score !!!!!!, it means nothing to any lender and never will.
