Sorry , I don't actually know but you've got me so curious now that I thought I'd write on your thread in the hope that more people will see it and someone will be able to answer!
  • I have a large clear plastic oblong marked out in centimeters all across it. There are eight little clear rubber feet on the bottom of it to stop it slipping on the material when you are measuring material and using a round blade to cut the material. I got mine from hobby craft to use on a sewing course I have recently completed. Both the measures and cutting blades were new to me as I have never seen them before. It was not a quilting course but these were very useful and no one seemed to use scissors for cutting material.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

Have a look on creativegrids.co.uk they make lots of different rulers. They come in all different sizes, so look at what you are going to be cutting (you will also need a rotary cutter and a cutting board) There's no point in getting a long ruler if you are going to be cutting small squares, there is a video on their website so you can see how they are used. http://www.creativegrids.com/acatalog/Creative_Grids_Non_Slip_Rulers.html I use mine for quilting, and they are great for cutting accurate long strips of fabric. They have little rough patches on the underside which stop them from slipping. Sometimes you can get them cheaper from ebay, the mats can sometimes be found cheap at homebargains
