What would you find hard to give up in these times of austerity?

I would honestly have a hard time choosing between heating or a decent cup of coffee.
Not sure I could give up my car because I live 15 miles from work, there is no public transport to get me there, and the roads really aren't the kind you'd want to cycle on - very few people do.0 -

This is one of the biggest problems facing developed societies, people in your situation are going to be hit ever hard by rising fuel prices0 -

My car is the last thing I would willingly give up, like you I work away from where I live, but unlike you there are buses, ironically it actually costs slightly more to buy a monthly ticket as it goes across 2 districts than its costs me to run my car for the month (Inc tax, ins, petrol and servicing costs) and it would take a 2hr trip each way compared to about 20/25 mins each way in a car.Dont wait for your boat to come in 'Swim out and meet the bloody thing'0 -
Reading with interest that for a lot of us it seems to be tea and coffee!
On that note ... the 1st cup of coffee in the morning would be it for me - it's my "special" one, made properly with milk and brown sugar..... the rest of the day it's tea or instant coffee at work but that 1st one at home *sign* heaven and it gets my day off right!
I'd also struggle without the car - I'm in the country and have a long walk to the bus stop but, like Going4TheDream, it takes ages & costs loads more to get the bus than run the car! and getting to my parents would be impossible as no public transport anywhere near them.
Also ..... (I wouldn't do well would I!) - a bath!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

i do have a rainyday fund its a big silver box a man made me a few years ago dont know wats in it as have to either take a hammer to it or electric tool cant see inside it but know wat i put in weekly so have some idea, yes it would cover essentials food , heating, petrol for a good while. Itend to have a lot food wise and dried food/tins about a year of also a years worth of pure fruit juices and cereals, dried milk, lentils, rice ,sugar flour etc. well stocked toiletries, lady products etc but i would miss my car.....my parents, bro and sis live 15 miles away so it would have to be backpacks on and bicycles out so do have puncture kits etc, bike lights also stored and pacamacs and high vis vests so we could be seen.would also miss my heating .C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinater

It seems just about every luxury is now a necessity.
I would fight to keep my car , internet , heating , mobile phone ...Although I would happily dump the land line ..All I get is sales calls....
I would lose Christmas ..I just don't see the point ...Sorry I will go sit in the corner ..0 -
Very difficult. I love good (black) tea, but I'd just as easily drink supermarket fruit teas, which are considerably cheaper. Chocolate is a treat, but I only buy Lidl's own as it's one of the best I've tasted. Hmm, good bread/bread flour I'd find very hard to give up - can't abide the cheap sliced plastic type, and bread's a staple food.
As for non-foods, it would have to be our pets and all that goes with them. Expensive, but our lives would be much less without them.0 -

Not in the Red Light area of Liverpool it isn't.
I think the thing i'd miss most would be the Internet, we couldn't come on here complaining without it.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.
