Best place for a few bottles of champagne?

I am looking to buy a few approx 6 bottles of champagne as a thank you to some suppliers of work this year.

Where is the best place to buy for the best deals at the moment?

Thanks

  • I bought Prestige Cava Brut from my local Marks and Spensers.
    Its cheap - £14 for 2 bottles.
Also a 25% reduction if you buy 2 cases. (6 in each)
Was surprised how delicious it was !
My husband bought NV Jacobs Creek / Trilogy Cuvee Rose....£14.99 each from Majestic ......quite special!

The M&S cava is great, we also like the rose version of this

Buy 6 bottles of Bollinger at www.majestic.co.uk and get them for £30 each ie £12 cheaper each with free delivery. Canard Duchene is £10 off per bottle at £15 with free delivery over £40.

6 bottles of Bollinger comes to £180 altogether at Majestic Wine. £42 a bottle before discount as pointed out by Edwardia.

Looks like she's also been looking in the same place as me as well, Wines Direct. This is quick and easy to use and appears better than Quaffers Offers even, though with Quaffers Offers you can search articles as well if you want to learn more about anything you are after.

There may also be some vouchers knocking around as well though not sure to be honest. Try searching the voucher board and you could also try HotUKDeals. On the right of HotUKDeals you'll see a search box for vouchers.

Check also for cashback if you feel the need to.

Also, can anyone recommend Heidsieck & Co Monopole Blue Top None Vintage? Tesco Wine are selling this for £14.49 a bottle plus £6 delivery, currently free on orders over £50. ASDA also sell this for £15 a bottle plus £3.50 delivery.

My French penpal's grandparents lived in Reims and all her uncles worked in champagne houses. I got to go round the cellars at Heidseick, get blotto on champagne from various houses at my 13th birthday party and have my first hangover on champagne.

    Heidseick beats Lanson any day.

Later in life, my French teacher was the sister of a champagne grower. He gave us our own tasting as a Christmas surprise one year and told us that a good champagne is one with small bubbles and which doesn't taste horrible as it gets flat. The best stuff would taste good as a still wine and champagne should be drunk Brut.

It's harder to make NV because it has to be a consistent blend which reflects the house style. Whereas Vintage doesn't mean old it means grapes from a named year. Some years are better than others so unless you do your research buying vintage is a gamble.

Don't laugh, though I use to buy a Cava Brut from M&S quite a few years back. It was quite pleasant as well and was about £5 a bottle. It was recommended on the BBC's food and drink program, the one with Jilly Goolden and Oz Clarke. I also remember Chris Kelly as well as I remember him from ITV's Clapperboard. That's going back a bit.

I'm no expert though isn't Brut the drier of the champagnes?

And here's an interesting fact, throughout the 19th century and into the early 20th century Champagne was generally much sweeter than it is today. I guess tastes and preferences change over time. Interesting!

Brut is the driest yes and we get the Brut over here mostly which is better according to the grower and it's the French who have a thing for the sweeter stuff now.

Pink champagne is getting more fashionable here than it used to be. One of the grapes used to make champagne is Pinot noir and this is a black grape
