  • We have just bought an elderly lady one of those fluffy throws/blankets from Primark. I don't really know how to describe them, they're much softer and lighter than fleece, come in lots of designs and patterns (we bought a pretty pastel flowered one), and would be nice to put over your knees on a chilly evening. We paid £10.

I think room reeds are a lovely idea for older people...although i like them for my house too! Just like a bottle of air freshener eith wooden sticks which soak up the perfume and makes the room smell lovely. You get them in supermarkets and places like M&S.

My Grandma is 79. I have bought her a poppy brooch from The Poppy Shop. She has admired the news readers, Kate Middleton etc with their brooches on TV- told her a porky pie that you can't buy them. Cant wait to see her face on christmas morning.

What a great idea for an extra gift for my mum and sister. I always try to have a small gift for everyone when they sit down to dinner. This will be perfect for the ladies (means I get one too).

    Thanks for a great suggestion!

  • I would also suggest a magazine subscription, or a hamper filled with naughty treats! I've just made one for my hubby's gran and filled it with treats such as chocolate, fudge, her favourite crisps, a couple of minature whisky bottles, a M&S Christmas cake. She's 86, and my mother-in-law will go nuts when she sees what I've put in it ;)
