Index-Linked Pension Calculations

I left the Civil Service 9 years ago and have a final salary pension pot resting there. The data I was given when I left in 1998 indicates it will be worth £4,500 per year when I retire in 2028. Although retirement is still a long way off it would be nice to know how the pension has grown due to index-linking. Does anyone know of a website or online calculator that provides an explanation of index-linking and related figures, tables, equations or whatever?

You should find the information you need at the National Statistics Office

gives the annual increases since 1971. Amusingly public sector pensioners have received a bigger increase in income than most "normal" public sector workers this year0 -
Excellent, thanks for the links guys.

Apparently, the scheme managers, Capita Hartshead, are supposed to write to you annually to tell you the current value of your preserved pension; maybe you've moved and not given them your new address?
It seems that you can find out online, see http://www.civilservice-pensions.gov.uk/0 -

I haven't heard a thing since I left 9 years ago, which is making me a bit nervous (and I haven't moved house). I'll chase them up a.s.a.p.
Thanks for the info.
