hi im not sure if this is the right place to post this?
my boyfriend is a mechanic and over the last 9 years has spent £3,000 on tools for his job.
ive heard that you can write to the tax office with these details and sometimes you get some sort of rebate for the tax paid on the items?
is this true?
does anyone have any more info on this?
all of his tools are from snap on and we have an itemised bill of all the tools.
he also has to buy steel capped workboots yearly can we claim for them?
Many thanks

Is he employed by someone else, self-employed as a sole trader, or does he run his own limited company? It strikes me that the treatment of these purchases may well vary according to his status.
If he's VAT-registered as a sole trader, or is running a limited company, the treatment of the VAT may enter into the equation as well.
All the answers should be on the HMRC website, if you want to trawl around there... https://www.hmrc.gov.uk
