Not really Christmas, but a 50th birthday on Christmas Eve

BIL turns 50 on Christmas Eve. What to buy as a gift?
He doesn't really have any interests, although likes fine food and wine. Has 'standards' so a night in a Travelodge is not going to cut it!:p We are on a fairly tight budget, but my DH remembers feeling a bit bereft on a special birthday when none of his family made an effort, and doesn't want his DB to feel the same.
We could probably spend about £100.00. I had thought of a course at Vinopolis or similar, but he wouldn't want to go on his own and he and his wife have an 11 year old and no-one close who can provide babysitting. The other thing is, we're at the other end of the country so it would have to be something we could post, or do via gift certificate etc.

What about a winery or brewery tour? They can then arrange this for next year (maybe when child is at school or at sleepover). Or buy a grape vine which also includes wine tour.
A voucher for a local restaurant or a 'named' restaurant (well know chef etc) where he wouldn't normally go.
Agree special present is needed as its my son's birthday too on Christmas Eve and sometimes it can get taken over with Christmas celebrations :-)0
