we've got an old commercial coffee maker, toaster etc, does anyone know who buys/takes scrap metal, i've tried freecycle but no luck, seached on internet and seem to only get big companies, we've only got small amounts of stuff so dont have tons to give/sell. also, we take alot of paper/plastic and Aluminium cans etc to recycling centre but if we could make a few £££ would be handy but main thing is it doesnt just get binned. if anyone has any information it would be great.

We regularly take small amounts (10 or 20 kg) of bright & burning copper to our local scrapyard. Aluminium is also worth a bit, steel less so. Look in yellow pages
Would the money you get cover the petrol cost of getting there is another question0 -
Hiya,
A few years ago when my kids were at nursery, I used to go round the pubs and collect their aluminium cans and take them to our local council recycling centre who would put them through a machine and sort them out, to make sure they were all aluminium (some of the steel cans would slip through when folks were not sure what the tins were made of.)
The priviledge of doing this was we made a good few £'s over the year doing this which was used to get desperately needed toys and equipment for the kids which they would not have been able to do otherwise.
You didn't get a huge amount of money per time, but then again I haven't done it for a long time so the prices have probably gone up now, by maybe 1p or so and I am really annoyed at myself right now as I think it was something like 40p a kg, but can't be sure. Sorry, but do give your local council a phone.
Good luck.0
