Drinking every night..when does it become a problem?

I have found over the past 6 months I have been drinking every night. Not loads, just one or two bottles of beer or a few shots of vodka.
I like a drink in the evening, helps me relax. I was talking to my friend about drink the other day and she said she was shocked that I drank every night. To be honest the thought of giving up my little treat every night makes me a bit sad.
I am on medication for depression and I do know I am not supposed to drink but don't feel it is doing me any harm.
Do many of you drink every day? Do you think I may have a problem?

Well, I drink every day, and I know my husband thinks I have a problem. He has never been that bothered about alcohol... I was cabin crew for years and have been used to sinking quite large amounts of drink on quite a regular basis. I also find I am quite an 'addictive' person...I can't just have one, once I get the taste I can drink a surprising (and worrying) amount in a night without waking with a hangover. I find it get's to about fiveish, I'll start the supper, and think...hmmm. Drinkie poo. I can also drink a lot and still be relatively sober (at least I think so.) For a while, I went onto red wine instead of spirits, cos I thought it was 'healthier'....lol....but recently I have gone onto martini and lemonade, because I am seriously worried about the amount I was drinking, but I can't seem to stop. I worry about it, so I guess this means there is a problem. If I am totally honest...I sometimes *think* about a drink even earlier in the day...but I never do.0

Drinking is fine. If the stopping is difficult, you have a problem.
I don't drink in the house at all. I've seen what can happen.de do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar0 -
i guess it becomes a problem is when you get home from work and you reach for a glass of wine before you even sit down i used to believe it was when you woke up wanting a drink but now believe its when you cant go for a day without having a drink. one glass a nt with a meal or watching tv is ok i'm sure we've all done that when times are hard or stressful over a few days but not continuosly. but having 5 or 6 every night is a problem. i think if you are on medication as well its not a good idea as alcohol can cancel all the benefits of taking your medication give.'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0

You should also check the information that came with your medication, because mixing some drugs with alcohol can damage your liver (more than just drinking a large amount of alcohol alone I mean). Could you try not having a drink one evening and see how you feel - if you feel you can't manage without then perhaps make an appointment with your doctor.2007 Bronze Olympic Challenge: Total £1057.34 :jDFW Nerd 269: Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0

You need to wary of still being "over the limit" the following day too.
Apart from your own heath you may be putting others at risk from your drinking habits too.
If you can't stop - you gotta problem - return to your GP and TELL HIM NOW - Before it's too late.
Good luck.0 -
The limit for a woman in 14 units a week, a bottle of wine is about 10 units, I can easily drink a bottle of wine over the course of an evening so I try to stick to drinking on one weekend evening only and I don't drink spirits.
It's easy to get into the habit and hard to stop once it's an established habit but there are health benefits to limiting alcohol including reducing weight.0 -
Please be very careful about alcohol use. I loved my brother very much but he was an alcoholic and died in his early 50's because he could not stop drinking. I really miss him and wish things could have been different0
