Hi all, long time no speak! The joys of a new job and 3 kids
A company that I phoned to request a catalog from have done a credit check and subsequently declined me credit. I did not know they were going to credit check me, I certainly did not give my permission, and I am very concerned/cross.
What is my best course of action?
TIA,
Brassic

Hi brassic - unfortunately you don't have to give your permission for a potential creditor to run a credit check on you. They do it as a matter of course, and it's probably written into the small print that all applications are subject to status.
Still makes you mad though, doesn't it? :mad:I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

I didn't apply though - I asked for a catalog - in actual fact the only reason I asked for a catalog was so that I could be entered into their prize draw - something which I made clear on the phone. I was never informed that I was applying for an account - I never requested to apply for an account, I just asked for a catalog.

They would probably say, in their defence, that the mere fact of asking for the catalogue implies that you are 'applying' for an account.
On the details of the 'prize draw' did it state 'No Purchase Necessary'? If it did, then write to them and demand to be entered into the draw.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser.
