Want to buy Irish Velvet Coffee Liqueur

As per the title.

Have seen it online on thewhiskyexchange.com but with delivery a 50cl comes out a bit steep at £20!

Does anyone know of anywhere else that sells it???

TIA

  • Can only see Sheridan's Coffee Layered Liqueur 50cl £9 at Tesco and Baileys Irish Cream with a Hint of Coffee 70cl £13 at ASDA.

Probably not much help am I?
  • Thanks for the reply but it's specifically Irish Velvet that I'm after. It makes really easy but gorgeous Irish coffees.

you going to have a problem then i just read on yahoo questions they have stopped making it a while ago so suspect the shop you said at the top has some stock left i would buy a few bottles if you are a real fan of it otherwise you may have well had your chips and have to find something else from now on if money is limited.

Irish coffee isn't really that diffcult to make. My dad used to make, especially round this time of year, and sometimes at weekends when he had time off. I recall him making it more often than Christmas too, maybe even around Easter as well, most likely.

I tried making it once as well and turned out OK. You just need one wineglass of hot strong black coffee, two tea spoons of demerara sugar, two table spoons of whiskey and 1-2 table spoons of double cream. The demerara sugar helps the cream float on top of the coffee.

Stir the whiskey and sugar into the hot coffee, float the cream on top by pouring over the back of a warm spoon, dessert or tea spoon will do. As simple as that. And don't stir the cream as this will make it sink.

Pouring the cream using the above method prevents the cream from sinking by the way.

Ground coffee is probably best as well, cafetiere or stove prepared coffee will do though I remember my dad using coffee granules. You can also freeze coffee if you don't drink it that often, it will last a surprising long time in a freezer if you have a decent one. Think the same applies with coffee beans as well. Most shops that sell coffee (e.g. Whittards) should be able to tell you how to store it.

Incidentally, Hot Irishman cost approximately £26.36, you can actually currently pick up a bottle of whiskey for a lot less if you decide to make Irish coffee yourself. Jameson's whiskey for example is currently £15 though any whiskey will do. And you can pick up a small pot of double cream for a little over 80p, demerara sugar costs about £2 per kilo, and about £1 for 500g. Don't use demerara too often though, it's so bad for your teeth. A little double cream is also very nice on mince pies if you don't want to waist it, demerara sugar will practically last for ever.

You could even try Googling how to make Irish coffee if you want. You can also make different variations of it as well [apparently].

There's also some interesting information on Wikipedia about Irish coffee. I forgot the origins of where this invention came about, I think Wikipedia might be correct from what I recall.

There's also some info on the history of Irish coffee on Hot Irishman's website.

  • Thanks for the help and advice. It's not actually for myself per se. It's a gift for my mum who has nostalgic connections to it. Money isn't exactly short but when research results in one supplier popping up then it's prudent to research further to see if there is a better price.
