Someone used my name and adress for a wonga loan!

Hi

I new to the forums so hello!

Recently i received two letters from wonga stating that i owed them 2 repayments. One for 200 and the other for 500.

Just to be clear i have NEVER used or even visited the wonga webpage or called them or anything.

I called them straight away and the lady on the phone assured me that no money would be taken from my account as they dont have my details which is why i got the letters.

My question is: Should i believe her? I cant afford to have 700 pounds taken from me as i have only just started my new job, not to mention that i didnt even take out any loans!

Also, who else should i get in touch with? Someones used my name and address to get a nice sum of money in their pocket and i dont want to be the one paying for it!

  • They must also have your bank details and card as they must match your name to A) get the funds and B) repay it.

Yes, you can. But on precautionary basis you must visit their office once to settle down any confusion.

Nonsense. They haven't got your bank details. That is obvious from what you have said. Tell your bank that you have been the victim of identity theft and instruct them that they must not make any payment to Wonga. Under no circumstances provide Wonga with any of your details, especially your bank details which they may want for 'verification purposes'.

Check your credit reports with the 3/4 CRA's, make sure you get the free 1, noodle should be easier 1 to do.

As said, get in touch with the CRAs. They have procedures etc in place to help potential victims of ID fraud.

(I noticed the Experian Rep post earlier that might include checking credit reports for free etc?)

And check to see if there is any other suspicious activity/credit, applications etc on the reports.

If you have sufficient detail then might also report to: www.actionfraud.police.uk

Should give you are reference/crime number that you can quote.

  • What is this CRA thing? Could some one give me a contact number or link

No money has been taken from my bank account. I keep a close eye on all funds incoming and outgoing i have checked everything over and over. Im just worried that at some point down the line money will disappear.

I had a similar problem except I had £700 for Wonga taken off my credit card. I reported it, got the card cancelled and replaced, the money was immediately refunded and I've had no further problems.
I'd believe the woman on the phone - I'm guessing it's a fairly regular occurrence for them.

    You must visit their office????

What are you talking about sheryl?
  • You've most likely been hacked. At some point you downloaded some malware which probably had a keylogger in it and the hacker sold your bank details on the darknet. Cancel your card and check your internet security.
