National Insurance - Small Earnings Excemption ??

Hi folks.

Can anyone confirm that if i claim small earning exception on National Insurance payment whether this is classed as a "gap" and will have an affect on future benefits/pension etc or is it somehow made up ??

Having the certificate means there will be gaps in your contributions record, there are no credits for having this, so it will effect state pension/benefits that need contributions for you to claim in the future

Unless, of course, you are getting Home Responsibilities Protection, eg because you are claiming Child Benefit, I think possibly Carers Allowance too. Although I think the cover that gives is only useful for pensions, not other benefits.
