Hi i been very silly, i have been working with this company for 11 years just, the past year we have been doin split shifts which is 8-4:30, 10-6:30 and 11-7:30, when i have bene doing the 7:30pm i am finind it hard tog et the 2 buses i have tog et as they go to every 45mins and then i miss the other and i wait ages t each bus stop, i have been clocking out at 7:12pm sometimes to quickly get out and catch my bus, i have the investigation tomorrow and so scared, i am now 27 years old and this is the only job i have had since i was young, not sure what i am going to do??

When you say you have been clocking out early; have you put this on your timesheet or have you put 7:30 and been paid for the extra time that you haven't worked?
How long have you done this?
If you have been paid for the extra time, I'd explain as best you can, apologise, offer to work back the time and then maybe negotiate different start and finish times so that you are only being paid when you work.
Have you ever asked to reduce your time approriately, for example you could work an hour later one day, and then go 20 mins early for 3 days.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

Wowsers - sorry but that's about 80 hours you have been paid for that you didn't work.
You need to prepare yourself - calculate the amount of wages that translates to and offer to pay that back in one go and then try and negotiate differing hours.
But you do need to prepare yourself for bad news - they might not be happy to let you off with this.
For me, it would depend on the individual as to whether I sacked them or not. If they were an excellent worker, really contrite and offered up front to pay it back, I might be willing to keep them on.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

But to be honest, I wouldn't bet on any outcome other than dismissal - excellent workers don't defraud their employers consistently for periods of a year
And letting you off will send a very poor message to other employees about acceptable conduct.
You say that you have done this "sometimes" for over a year. Exactly how frequently is "sometimes" - every time you are on lates, or less often? Is there any specific reason why it is difficult for you to wait at the bus stops, other than not wanting to spend time at a bus stop, that you might offer as an explanation? You say that you clocked out at 7:12 pm - did you actually clock out and change the time, or did you simply fill in a form saying you left later than you actually did? Can you offer any explanation as to why you didn't ask your manager if it was possible to come to some arrangement to leave earlier (like shorter breaks)? How did they find out that you were doing this? And what is your job - how important is it (other than the obvious, you are supposed to be at work when claiming to be at work) that you are actually present in those last 20 minutes - I suppose I am asking, how come nobody missed you for a year?0 -
What get's me with this story is If the OP has to clock out surely his/her early departure would've been noticed a lot sooner than it has been.0

'Clock out' may just mean 'left' to the OP.
In my job falsifying time sheets would mean dismissal, so good luck OP.0 -
yea i have been putting 7:30pm on the sheet but going about 7:12pm, also normally whne i have been on the late shift which is 1 in 3 week for full week monday to friday. i do get to work early and clock on and sit in the canteen so guessing they thought i was starting early etc. was just hard that the buses go to every 45 mins and if i left early i could just catch one, after 7pm they are every 45mins then i have that bus jurney then have to wait for another bus and then another bus jurney home which ment getting home very very late. wish i did ask them now etc but i did it and they never said anything till the other day.0

Yes, you should have asked them if you could change your working times.
Yes, if you decided to just start leaving early without asking, you should have started work earlier to make up the time instead of sitting in the canteen, AND been honest on your time sheets. Should you have been signing in at that time either when you weren't actually working?
However, you've been falsifying your working times and you must have known what you were doing. As an employer, I see this as you stealing from me; I don't pay you to spend your working time sitting in a canteen or waiting at a bus stop.
You could grovel and offer to return your overpayment, but this seems such a deliberate deception on your part that I don't think you can expect much understanding from them. You'll be lucky to keep your job.
In future learn from this and don't try to deceive your employers - if you need some flexibility - ask!Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
