Can any on tell me if i will be charged any duty if i buy some make-up from American stores online?I cannot find the products i need here as they are no longer available.

Individual packages value less than £18 wouldn't be charged.
Over that level VAT at 17.5% would be due, plus the carrier's handling and admin fee. Note VAT is calculated not only on the price paid for the goods but also on the shipping costs, and any customs duty if payable.
Customs duty is collected if the amount due totals £7 or more. If less than that it should be waived for private/low vale shipments.
Revenue & Customs website has a list of common internet goods with duty rates (includes cosmetic rates, I think from memory) and an article about internet shopping which includes a link to the list and more info about postal import procedures:
