in Cutting tax
Hi, over the past few years I have used my own vehicle for occasional business trips and been paid a paltry 25p a mile.
I now find that I can claim a tax rebate of 40p per mile (minus the 25p so 15 p a mile).
I only do under 1000 miles a year like this, this year it will only be about 500.
So how do I go about claiming this back?I am PAYE and I know its going to get me less than £100 this year.
I have spreadsheets of all mileage claims - how far back can I claim?
Who do I see about claiming and do I just fill in a form and send them the spreadsheets? what proof will they need that its accurate?
Also what are the consequences of doing this? will I be having to fill out assessment forms forever more after doing this?

It's not a tax rebate OF 25p per mile, but ON 25p per mile, so 20% of 25p which is 5p. On 500 miles that's £25If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
You'll get nowhere near £100 for that sort of mileage. But its your money so stick the claim in.
I've just received a cheque for £42 for last tax year in regard to my business mileage, my company pays 40ppm.
I didn't use the forms just a simple letter laying out my journeys and I was also able to back these up with a printout from our companys SAP system.
Took me about 5 n minutes to write out, so time well used.0 -
