NHS continuous service?

I have handed in my notice for my current job and I am due to leave on Friday 28th December.

My new job (in the same trust) is starting on the 7th Jan.

The reason why I am having a week in between is 1) give me a short break before starting 2)My new boss said there are quite alot of people off over xmas in that department so their wont be enough staff to train me.

So my questions are.......

Will it affect my continuios service?
Will it affect my pension? (not that I am any near pension age yet)
When I fill in my december timesheet it will be for the dates 26th Nov-24th Dec. We will be paid on 24th Dec for that but when will I get my final weeks pay that i will be owed from work from 24-28th Dec? ...Will it be the following month along with 3 weeks off wages from my new role (for 3 weeks in jan that I will work?)

Thanks

  • you will get paid in your old job up to the 28th inclusive, don't forget your time sheet is from 1st to 30/31st of any month, your pay date is irrelevant here. but since you dont start yr new job til 7th Jan, your january time sheet will start 7th to 31st.

as for continuous service it wont matter here, your service is only broken if you take more than 1 year off i.e. if you dont work in the NHS for over a year, then return.

if you're worried contact your pay services clerk.

good luck in your new job!!

Thanks for your reply :-) The only thing is my november timesheet went from 29th of October to the 26th of November so this timesheet will be from the 26th november until the 24th of december which is also the paydate. So as i am working from the 24th until the 29th december week will that be on januarys time sheet? thanks. sorry for being stupid :D
  • hi again, i'm puzzled by your pay dates, you are paid differently to my trust. sounds like you are paid 4 weekly rather than calendar months. sorry i can't help with that one, speak to pay services then you will be clear in your mind.
  • I dont think the response around continuous service is actually correct. You need to be clear that there is a difference between 'continuous' service and 'reckonable service'. For continuous service, you can have a break of no more than one week. All the details are in the Agenda for Change manual (assuming you are empoyed under that) or useful info at nhsemployers - look for 'retirement and redunancy pitfalls' - couldnt post the link as have just joined to make this reply and it wont allow me.
