Temporary Laid off, Temporary stop

I have just been Temporary laid off at work and the benefits office have said that the company have put me on temporary stop. I was at the Job center yesterday to try and sort out some jobseekers allowance and the lady I spoke to told me that I have to create a CV and start looking for a new job if I want to claim. I explained to her that I am still in employment and I will be breaching my contract if I start lookin for new work and I dont want to leave this company as they are a really good company to work for. Another on of my work collegues ha also done the same as me but they have told him he can claim and not to look for a new job for 13 week beause while he is still in employment they cannot make him look until then. Anybody got any advice?

If you are not seeking a job then I dont think you can claim Job Seeker's Allowance.
May be proved wrong though.0 -
Thats what they said to me, but my mate said they told him he can claim because we are on temporary stop, I've no idea because I've never been out of work, I'm new this, not that I want to be in this position.0

But you said
"I explained to her that I am still in employment and I will be breaching my contract if I start lookin for new work and I dont want to leave this company as they are a really good company to work for."
If they are putting you on stop can they be that good?0 -
Agree with above if they where any good they would be paying some sort of retainer.0

companies will try and get out of paying anything, does'nt mean they are bad, they lost the work because of a few people that caused a few issues. we have been told that they are expecting work in the new year, but that does'nt help me at the moment0

Which is why maybe you need to be Job Seeking actively and would therefore be (probably) entitled to JSA.0 -
According to the DMG, a laid off/ short time worker may limit their job search to casual work only for the first thirteen weeks. Therefore it seems reasonable for the JCP to expect you to produce a cv to aid in your job search.0

whats DMG?0

How can looking for another job make you in breach of your contract of employment? How would they even know you're looking? Given the current level of unemployment you probably won't find a job quickly anyway, and if you do then maybe it'll be better than the one you have now.0
