Mr Google, Mr Amazon and Mr !!!!!bucks are the tax version of loverats. If they think they can get away with it they will.

Would you inform the HMRC if a member of your family weren't declaring all their income?

Tax cheats don't have to be multi national corporations.

Agreed - although unlike Topshop their avoidance wouldn't pay for several new hospitals. Informing HMRC would depend on the circumstances. There are times when breaking the law can feel like the 'right' thing to do - e.g. if they unexpectedly needed money for a lifesaving operation for a loved one. Likewise, if a member of my family was cheating on a partner I wouldn't necessarily go public with the info, I'd probably talk to them and find out their side. It's hard to define right and wrong in a moral context because moral compasses differ. But there's no point having an argument about whether what these companies do is legal when the real thing most people are reacting to is whether what they do is moral. Maximum transparency and information means consumers can vote with their spending habits. I'm planning on transferring my business from vodafone for starters.

The black economy is far larger than you might imagine. Certainly makes Starbucks £10 million seem like petty cash.
