I haven't been able to make much use of the free newspaper/coffee at Waitrose. However, a friend who lives near a branch says that some of the coffee shop staff are complaining about all the "customers" who come in for a free coffee...and do not buy anything.

I must say, I am the opposite.
I call into Waitrose much more than I ever used to because of the free drink - but rarely come away without at least one carrier bag of shopping.
Meeting my friend there tomorrow for afternoon tea actually, and we are both bound to buy something or other!

I used to get the coffee at the end once I had finished shopping, but now tend to go there first and drink it as I am shopping.... so maybe that gives the staff the impression that 'customers' are not actually buying anything else, as they either have no shopping bags, or no filled trolley when they go to the cafe ...... if only.
Dread my credit card statement......every other transaction will be Waitrose !!
