Afternoon All,
On the pursuit of cheaper gym membership, last year I signed up to health insurance with Pru Health, which entitled me to 50% off gym membership with either Virgin Active or LA Fitness. For me this works out about £10 per month cheaper than the gym membership alone, and is a 1 month rolling contract, so no minimum term to worry about.
My policy renewal reminder came in a few weeks ago, a few pounds more expensive than the previous year!? This annoyed me somewhat, as my health 'Risk' can't have increased in just one year, or so I thought. (28 year old, active, non-smoking male)
In an attempt to see how accurate this was, I posed as a new customer and got a fresh quote, which worked out 20% less than my renewal! Soon after, their advisor gave me a ring, asking me if I was happy with my renewal. I explained to him that as a new customer the price would have been far less and straight away he offered me a discount on my renewal!
Just thought I'd share this, in case anybody else uses Pru Health for cheaper gym membership. Don't just settle for the renewal price, you can haggle the price down within reason!

I'm also a 28 Year Old Male, non-smoker with PruHealth. Can I ask how much your membership is?
I joined LA Fitness with a supposed discount at £33 per month on a 24 month contract(!). 9 months to go. What's annoying was they were openly advertising memberships for £33 per month as a special deal the week after I joined.
It's fairly well known that gyms will drop your price to retain your business. Just say you've been looking at other gyms and they're cheaper.
I'm looking at joining Nuffield as one opened pretty much opposite my branch of LA Fitness. Not ventured into check prices. They do more thorough fitness tests (blood glucose, etc) than LA and LA staff seem a bit clueless sometimes with their tests. Do you also have the fitbug and polar monitor by any chance?0
