in Cutting tax
Hi, hope this is the right place to ask. I'm a little unsure with NI. I have a full time job, but am also looking to do some freelance work, this won't earn my much, but as it earns something I guess I will need to register as self employed, I don't expect to earn anywhere near £4K from self employment, so can apply to deffer my NI, however will doing this effect my state pension? I pay standard NI for my normal job.
Thanks,
Ian
Thanks,
Ian

Providing you earn sufficient in your main job to pay the qualifying amount of national insurance contributions then your basic pension rights will not be affected.
I believe the current qualifying amount is 53 weeks at the lower earnings limit of £89 per week. So long as you earn this amount then the tax year will count as a contribution year. This will count towards the basic pension. If it’s not important to you, don’t consume it0 -
Thank you, I was a little worried I might end up paying more in NI than I'd earn!0
