    bump ..........
old enough for my bones to feel the cold .
  • Very glad I found this thread! With the news report today of a predicted horrific, freezing winter, my husband and I are definitely giving this a go!
    Grocery Challenge - November 2013 - £110/£200
  • My DD's have wooden blinds in their room but always say they are quite chilly and don't keep the cold out at all so I have been and bought a mattress protector from Wilko's today that cost £9.50 for a king size one and a shower curtain for £1 from the pound shop. I am sure I can find some material or a duvet cover to give it a nicer look.

I have decided to hang them on expanding spring loaded poles so I need to make them light weight.

I noticed on one of the links in the OP's first post that it recommends placing velcro strips across bottom of the curtains & against the wall to help prevent heat escaping.

I saw some magnetic shower-curtain strips yesterday in Sainsbury & think they might work - you place one magnetic strip in the curtain lining and the other, either on the wall or if you have a radiator under the window perhaps use that?

***ah, am reading this thread back-to-front and see magnetic strips have already been mentioned - not sure of the price in sainsburys but were in the clearance section***

  • have loved the ideas on this thread, thanks folks, i have a question though...

any ideas on how to hang a quite heavy duvet as my thermal curtain which i don't think will hang from a tension rod like a light weight curtain would... I'm so rubbish with DIY things : / sewing I can do, anything technical to do with fitting things in the house- not so much lol!
  • Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
