Advice needed. Freedom finance bespoke finance issues

I have read forums on here for ages but this is the first time i have needed to post. Please can someone help.We took out a loan in Oct 2006 with Freedom finance. Out of the blue last year we recieved a letter from FSCS and deloitte telling us we were eligable for a claim. We filled in the forms and returned them to the FSCS who have eventually come back to use to tell us the loan was brokered by Bespoke finance(we were unaware of this). Who are based in Gibraltar and therefore not covered under the FSCS scheme. On further investigation i have found out not only are Bespoke based in gibraltar they are also in liquidation. Can anyone please tell me how i can claim the £6000 compensation i am due. No one seems to be accepting responsibilty. I have no idea how a company based and regulated within the UK can pass on unknowing customers to a company based outside the UK without their knowledge and consent. My loan was with GE Money and was paid off in 2008. Has anyone ever had any success??

  • Who was the insurer (not the lender)?

Unusually, they may have a liability for accepting business from an unregulated intermediary.
  • Thank you for the response magpiecottage.
I have looked through my documents and i cant see any details about the insurer?
I have requested all the documents held from GE Money. They are been less than helpful.
Is there any other way i can find this information out that you know of?
  • I have checked through my documents again. Think the insurer may have been Genworth? Not sure what my next step would be now?

Your next step is to refer your complaint to the insurer on the basis that the (unregulated) seller of the PPI acted as an agent of the (regulated) insurer.
You have only a tiny chance of success with this...
