Christmas Day games

Hi guys has anyone got any simple games to keep the family occupied on Christmas Day evening. Mostly Adults and reluctant teens :D, ones that can be played sitting down or standing not running around etc.. as there won't be much room :rotfl: thanks for any ideas..

  • We played Headbands at my sister's last year. You have a character or famous person stuck to a headband, so everyone can see who it is, except you. You then ask questions and guess who it is. We only allowed yes/no answers, maximum ten questions. We did have a theme, though, of Christmas characters. We had to restrict it to something my son could join in with, as he has a learning disability. Everyone had great fun, including my son, who was delighted when he guessed correctly.

  • The one my granddad makes and keeps him busy throughout the year I'm sure is the celebrity game. He cuts out celebrities' pics from the newspaper and sticks 5/6 on a piece of card and numbers them - we usually have 40/50 faces and in teams we pass the cards around and write down who they are, really gets the mind working and there is always one you know who it is but can't quite remember their name!

  • Cranium or Articulate are both fun if you've got a group :)

I was going to suggest Articulate too :) though it is pretty expensive to buy if you don't already have it.

As someone else said, charades is always good! Or cards.

Charades, Absolute Balderdash & we usually get a new game each Christmas; this year, it's Pointless.

My son got Around Britain Quiz for his birthday so I imagine we'll have a go at that too.

I usually make a Wordsearch & the person who completes it in the fastest time wins some silly little, but much prized, 'trophy' ;)http://tools.atozteacherstuff.com/word-search-maker/wordsearch.php

And, sometimes the game where you put 20 onjects on a tray then take it away after a little while, then everyone has to try & remember what was on it.

This is good fun, we were introduced to it by our Danish friends

Everybody buys 2 gifts each (to a price limit say £2), which they wrap up. Anything you want. I tend to mix silly things with nice bits.

You all sit in a circle with the gifts in the middle. When anyone rolls a 6 on a dice they get to take a gift from the middle. When all the gifts have been claimed someone sets an alarm for whatever length of time they want (say 8mins for example - will depend how long you want to keep going and how many people you have, only the person setting the alarm knows how long the game will last for).

When the alarm is set everyone rolls the dice in turn again and this time if they roll a 6 they get to steal a gift from another person. When the timer runs out you win the gifts you have.

It's really good fun particularly if you have interesting shaped gifts. Last year we had a feather duster that everyone was fighting over.
Give me the boy until he's seven and i'll give you the man.

If you're up for using some energy, then the "Hat, Scarf & Coat Game" is usually fun.

You need a hat (we use a bobble hat or beany), a scarf, an overcoat & gloves. Plus a gift wrapped up as for pass the parcel & a knife & fork (not too sharp).

These are placed on a chair in the middle of the group; everyone else sits in a circle around this.

You roll a die & if you get a six, then you have to put on the hat, scarf, coat & gloves. Sit on the chair with the gift in your lap & try to get one layer of wrapping off with the knife & fork.

The rest of the group keep rolling the die & when someone else gets a 6 the person unwrapping has to stop & swaps with the person who just rolled the 6.

Obviously it can get quite hectic if lots of 6s are rolled in quick succession, so watch out for any little ones getting trampled.

Sometimes there is a drought of 6s, so you can increase it to 6s & e.g. 1s if you want.

The winner is the person who gets through to the gift.

Tanith, have a look at the Charity shops - I regularly see Scene-It games, Balderdash (the 1st one) & other board games. I think there are so many on the market, people either get fed-up of what they've got, or, once bought, they realise that they don't enjoy that particular game.
