Hope this is the right place.
Does anyone know where you can get small (enough to fit some cheese and wine), wicker empty hamper baskets on the high street?

I would try Wilkinsons in the homeware dept - I am sure I have seen some in there (for bathrooms perhaps?). have a look at the stores online catalogue.
other dept stores may have them too - but, I do not think they are 'cheap'. Perhaps ebay may have them?0 -
Thanks. Ebay does have some for about £5 including delivery but it's difficult to deliver here.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

Do you live near a branch of the Range? I think they have some small baskets in the bathroom section.0

if you are prepared to do a bit of 'crafting' there is a really cheap way of making nice gift 'hampers'.
first find a cardboard box in the right size (mens shoe boxes or boot boxes would hold a bottle of wine and a couple of cheeses) then mix up half pva glue to half water and cover the box sides (and take it down inside a couple of inches) with it, then tear up bits of paper - any paper which you think is pretty or appropriate, and stick them on. make the papers about two inches wide by about three inches and overlap them using glue to stick them down. cover that with a layer of your glue/water mix. leave it overnight to dry. next day you can do it all again, leaving most of the first layer showing. finish with a layer of your glue/water.
This will make a quite sturdy box base - you can then fill with tissue and your gifts and wrap with cellophane and a nice bow!
PS - I have used torn up pages of gardening mags for gardening friends and put a Trowel and Fork and Seed packets in - and for another friend I just used torn pages from a newspaper - and the wine and biccies and jam looked really good!0 -
I use fruit boxes from the greengrocer stencil the sides with a made up posh name such as "Toffs Wines" and fill with rafia or straw just like the posh shops do. Cover with cello wrap then add a nice big Red or green bow diagonally at the corner and voila it looks like you have spent a mintBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Pretty sure I saw some in Home Bargains a couple of weeks ago - wasn't sure what size I needed at that time and ended up with ikea card boxes for my purposes but I think they were around the £2.99 mark for a hamper that was roughly the size of an A4 sheet of paper...0

I simply cover empty boxes with wrapping paper. meritaten's idea sounds lovely, I'd love to see a photo of how it looks in the end.0
