I'd really recommend myfitnesspal as a way to keep an eye on your calories - it's an excellent website! Also completely free :)

I have just started swimming 5 days a week, for roughly 45 mins at quite a steady pace.

It will be much more effective if you mix it up a bit with interval style swimming - some legnths at full pelt, some normal, some intermediate, different strokes and above all else - get in an out of the pool many many times even though it looks a bit silly, the training effect is great as long as you exit fast - best of all if you haul out not using the ladder.

Not the end of the world if you can't do the in and out the pool bit though.

I'd also augment this with for example fast 'running' in the pool whilst trying to punch / knee / clap as hard as you can for say a minute at a time so you get at other parts of the body and build all round fitness.

A way to end the session is say with a few minutes fast as you can treading water using all 4 limbs.

I know people who've swum at the same pace for years and never changed thier weight or tightness. The body gets very used to a steady pace so the benefits aren't nearly as marked as with properly done interval training.

Train more, eat less (than you currently do) and weight loss will occur.

    ITS THAT SIMPLE.

Youre just not patient or consistent enough. Dont worry, its not uncommon and weve all been guilty of it at some point.
  • i also suggest, my fitness pal , it works out how many calories you need like im on 1200, when i exercise i burn 500 calories i eat some back , its such a good site. ive lost 17lb since 3rd of jan x
  • I don't count calories and I've lost 6.5lb in a fortnight with Paleo diet and mixing up training - interval cardio and heavy free weights.

I weigh myself once every few weeks, but prefer to go on how my clothes feel.

If you do want to count calories though, MyFitnessPal is good and also the LiveStrong Myplate counter.

    Good luck :D

  • Look up your TDEE
Do NOT allow yourself extra calories for exercise
ONLY weigh yourself once a week, at the same time, in the same clothes
    Counting the beans : £1
Knowing which beans to count : £99
