Driving debt down

  • Nothing new to report really apart from work are doing another round of voluntary redundancies so I'm thinking of applying again. The money would clear my debts and leave me with some cash to retrain in a profession I could enjoy. No guarantee I'd get it but surely is worth another go.

Certainly worth thinking about .... I'd love to re-train (well actually just finish my degree!) and do something new! Try not to get down if you don't get it tho'

o I'm guessing you work for a Local Authority. It's terrible, they didn't let me go on the last round of voluntary redundancies either, but I'm pretty sure my whole department is going to go at some point in the next three years anyway.

    Sounds familiar here too!

I think they need to be careful as if they cut everywhere too fast and people can't get jobs elsewhere, it will really impact on local communities & the businesses there (obviously impact will vary depending on area - cities, I would imagine would cope better as more job opportunities than rural areas).

Sorry Michael :o Welcome to diary land, congrats on what you've achieved so far & wishing you the best on clearing the rest!:)

  • Thanks rising, I did apply for it in the end on Friday but I won't be holding my breath! I agree about the direction this country of ours seems to be heading, it is very frustrating.

In the mean time I'll keep doing what my title says lol.

I've already filled in what feels like a million surveys, started mystery shopping, taken any overtime on offer, started keeping a tight hold on the spending and generally been tight. :D
  • An early update today.

Tried to go to work but the trains are up the spout and the platform is beyond capacity so thought I'd come back home to stay warm for a little while. :D

And this is before it snows...

If I ever get to work it's likely to be a spendy day as I need a couple of small supplies for my locker.
  • Managed to eventually get to work yesterday, I'm lucky my manager is sensible so had no problem with it. Yesterday was a spendy day, but wasn't too bad.

I have NSD 6 safely tucked away now. Tomorrow might be an NSD also if I'm a good boy lol.
  • Managed to get NSD 7 yesterday, so that was a good day.

We also found out yesterday that future Mrs's step sister is getting married in May  She lives in the caribbean so I've told her that I can't promise anything since it depends on my health holding up, but from January until the end of March I will try and work 7 days a week (with the odd day of A/L) to get the cash for the flights and spends(we can stay with her dad).

She is considering my offer at the moment because she doesn't really want me to be at work so much, though I told her I will be doing the Saturdays anyway to get the debt down a bit.

If it turns out I don't earn enough, at least it should obliterate my overdraft. :D
