BT Vision,wha's the catch?

Options
I had an email yesterday, it is offering me a free V-box/connection/installation and Home Hub.

After ringing BT an engineer is coming out on 30th April to install, so i have time to cancel.

I don't intend to use the Video on Demand services etc, so how can BT afford this offer, there must be a catch, right ??

The kit may be free but what are the costs and for how long 12-18 month?.
You will be tied to a contract period whether you use it or not.
I would double check all the terms and conditions before the kit is installed as by then it would be too late.

I already have BT Broadband for which i pay £17.99 per month, and i am very happy with the service i have had for the last few years. I really can't see the catch!

    Anybody else got it?

With BT, the catch is usually at the bottom, next to some ***'s. They can afford it, because they charge everyone more money than alternative providers for the same service. I don't have one, but a lot of people on here seem to have problems with the homehub.

    As previous poster said

The only catch is that you are tied into a "Contract" from when your contract begins for 12 or 18 months depending on the terms.

If you decide to cancel within the contract period, they can charge you the "Fees" for the remainder of the contract.

Basically they tie you in to their service. Its happening more and more in the communications sector as they do better offers but tie you in for like 12 months but 18 months is becoming more common. e.g Mobile phone contracts.

Its all good if your happy with the service but if it doesnt work out then your stuck for the contract period unless you pay the cancellation fee.

Im stuck with a company for 18months on a intial excellent offer, but they have been terrible and I'm counting the days to when I can cancel and not have anything to do with them.

Lesson learnt personally is to not to get 18 month contracts as its a long time when things dont work well. :)

However if your happy with BT then go for it.
