Discharged Bankrupt looking for Start up Business Loan or Grant

Hi all,

Hope your all well!

As stated in the title I'm a discharged bankrupt as of Feb 2011 and i'm now looking for help with getting my new business venture off the ground.

Can anybody advise me of any government grant schemes or banks who might lend my business the start up money needed?

I know there isn't much chance but I'm hoping somebody might know of an avenue I can explore to help me out.

Thanks in advance for any responses!

  • Thanks but Dragons Den isn't appropriate for my business as there is no patented tech or intellectual rights. It is just a normal business that I need a bit of guidance with at the moment to get the starting capital.

I have recently set up a business and could only find a loan from our local business centre in east london for up to £10k..but even that requires at least match funding.

No one apart from investors is willing to put money in without trade history..in my short experience.
  • Thanks Loopgames,

Unfortunately I'm in the north west of England and last time I looked on the government website there wasn't anything available for myself!

Hope your venture is going well!

I do have to add that the harder i work in the pre startup stage including having strong self belief then slowly the cashflow to make it happen opens up. For me it is trickle here or there...for example it could include interest free credit card offer from the bank account you open up, or a small investor who wants to support the business and then another interest...so a lot of forward planning helps anticipate potential issues that might crop up.

Have you tried finding your local one through the https://www.nationalenterprisenetwork.org?
  • Thanks for the website, i'll give it a good read!
  • Try the nearest specialist business library. There are some library-only databases of grants and funding (eg Grantfinder) that might turn up some small grants. Most local authorities run a business advice service

Are you looking for a few hundred, a few thousand, or more?

How much are you looking for to set up your business?

What will it fund (e.g. equipment or stock or upfront rental costs or working capital or what?)

    What industry sector?

Another database on potential sources of funding is here - https://www.gov.uk/business-finance-support-finder
