Good quality alternative to Nescafe instant coffee?

I've always bought Nescafe instant coffee, disliking the taste of cheaper brands.
However, I notice that as well as the price increasing regularly, I am having to put more and more of it into a cup to make a drink that actually tastes like coffee!
It also seems to leave a scum in my cup that I can't say I used to notice.
Can anyone recommmend a good quality alternative?

I adore Tesco Gold brand. Great price and a lovely taste too.0

Yes agree Tesco Gold, ordinary or De Caff. Though Lidl are presently doing Nescafe normal for £4.79... 300g's0

I have been using Sainsburys Gold Roast coffee and its not bad, got a big jar of it when it was on offer and its lasting ages.0

The premium ones have been on offer a lot recently - the Millicano etc. I find you don't need to use as much and they go a long way!0

Personally I don't think any instant coffee tastes as good as the real thing. I used to drink ground coffee in hotels and found it too bitter but I realised that was because it sat there stewing on the hotplate for hours.
Maybe it was a fad when I lived there but in Canada when I'd go visit a friend they would get coffee beans out of freezer, get coffee grinder and whizz enough for a cafetiere. Totally better.
So I'd suggest buying ground coffee as they aren't all really strong. ASDA has half a kilo of Lavazza for less than a big jar of Nescafe.
In Portugal Nescafe is way more expensive than bags of ground coffee according to MIL.0 -
I love kenco rich roast which is often on deals, which is when i stock up, and it is a little stronger than others so you don't have to use as much. Great flavour too.
They also have a loyalty scheme, each jar has a code inside worth points ( a bit like andrex puppy points) and you can enter them online to save for free gifts. I'm saving for an eco kettle at the mo.Wins so far: Jar of Nesquik, LoveTub pudding, Strada Reviewer.

We used to drink Nescafe Original then suddenly went off it, went to Gold Blend but became too expensive. At the moment we're on Nescafe Alta Rica on offer in Asda £3 for the 150gm pouch. Embarasing (sp) to say we use 3 a week.
I stocked up on Milcano when it was on offer in Morrison and use that when I crave proper filter coffee.
Just waiting for an offer on Dolce Gusto caps then I can stock up on those2011 Sealed Pot Challenge #1238 hoping for £250 ~ saved £743.32

I recently bought Nescafe Black Gold as it was on offer in Sainsbury's. Much more taste than ordinary Nescafe and you don't need to put as much in your cup as it's stronger. Of course nothing tastes as good as freshly made filter coffee but we all often need the speed of granules for a quick cup."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. I personally won't buy any products of Nestle's because of their unethical methods of promoting infant formula over breast milk to poor mothers in developing countries. So won't touch Nescafe.

However, Tesco are currently selling their Gold Freeze Dried Coffee (500g) £6.05 (£1.21/100g) though this is only slightly cheaper than the cheapest Nescafe in the supermarkets £5 for 300g (£1.67/100g). And Sainsbury's Gold Roast Freeze Dried Coffee (200g) is not that much cheaper either at the moment £2.69 (£1.35/100g). Though I have to agree with Edwardia, there's nothing quite like ground coffee.0 -
People have often recommended the Columbian instant in Aldi - it's ok really, you get used to it. However they didn't have any on one occasion so I tried their own gold brand and it was vile! Try the Columbian, we all have different tastes anyway. I've run out at the moment so will have to finish the jar of gold vile, but off to Aldi tomorrow. V interested in this thread and agree about the Nestles issue.0
