Need tips of minimizing out shopping spend

Hi
You need to start with a weekly meal plan. Write down what your going to eat each night and then look at what you need to buy. Loads of it will come out of your freezer and storcupboard initially.
We've been doing this for a month now. We are a family of 4 (sometimes 6 when step-daughters are here) and we were spending £110-120 a week at Tesco.
We decided to do our main shop at Lidl with a top up at Tesco. We have spent £60-70 a week. That hasn't included any toiletries or cleaning products. But today we have been to Home Bargains to stock up on them and spent £20.
Our total spend is £280 as opposed to £450+. We have been amazed at this. We've bought crisps/choc (Lidl own brands) but the kids haven't complained. I've also been making bread in our breadmaker and making cookies/flapjack too. This week we bought beer and wine too!
I reckon we could save about £1700 a year doing this.
