PayPal debt..

Options
Hi guys,

Last month I sold a phone on eBay for which the buyer opted to collect in person. As it turned out, the buyers account had been hacked or accessed without authorization and so even though I withdrew the funds (which cleared), I was asked to pay the monies back to PayPal to clear the negative balance.

However, the money was already soaked up and upon it entering my acc and I didn't have the funds to repay immediately.

I tried on numerous occasions to let PP know, but to no avail.

Long story short - I received a letter from their designated debt collection company threatening to take legal (and physical) action.

I have now been paid and can pay the outstanding balance off (even though it was extremely inconvenient), but was wondering if my credit rating might be affected at all by all this?

Thanks,

Z

They said they'd send a doorstep collector..
  • I see.

I had visions of them "sending round the boys", to break your legs. :p

Just as likely to be the buyer that scammed you.

Paying by paypal and collecting - then claiming to have no knowledge of the sale is common on fleece- bay.
  • Sorry to say you'll have to chalk it down to experience. You've just been scammed plain and simple.

I got done for £170 of video equipment which came from a cleared paypal payment and when it all unravelled because I had not sent it recorded delivery I broke the sellers protection so lost the lot.

Ebay/Paypal is safe but you must follow their escalation procedures to the letter. Only send it to a confirmed address and always send recorded if it is of any sort of value.

If they are coming to collect then it's strictly cash on collection, no way would I take paypal (you pay extra fees anyway) and then let them collect.

I held out for a few months with the letters arriving from their collection team about my scam but in the end I paid them back and chalked it down to experience. I still use it now, but I know the rules.
