My guess is that somebody at Aviva has typed in the wrong policy number when you called.
I would drop them a line, with a copy of the policy (NOT the original at this stage) and ask them what they need from you when the policy matures between Christmas and New Year. It is unlikely, though sadly not unheard of, that they will continue to insist it is a WOL with that evidence.0
