hi
i've just aplied for a job as a driver and I have been told that i need to be checked by the above agency or to send my CRB which I do not have.
HAS anyone come accross this agency before, coz they are asking for about £50...... for the checks
Any response highly appreciated

I'm afraid it sounds legit and you will probably have to stump up the £50 if you want to work for this company.
I run a charity, and our people ought to be CRB checked (they aren't atm, but I am going to introduce it). As a charity professional, I have done my homework on this. Umbrella companies like CRS (I hadn't heard of them before, but a web search on CRB checks brings them up as a sponsored result) do CRB checks for smaller companies - small in terms of number of employees who need CRB checks, that is - who need these checks. I think from memory companies were proposing to charge us, a small charity, £30 odd for each check a year or so ago, so £50 doesn't sound too outrageous, especially if it's in the private sector. Just think of it as £1 a week off your wages for the first year (and you'll have the CRB check then, which lasts 3 years I think).
Hint - see if you can negotiate/clarify with your prospective employers that the CRB check is actually yours, as you paid for it, and so they are required to provide it to any subsequent employer/2nd job you need it for whilst it is valid.

Hiya

I work for a charity both as a volunteer and paid member of staff so have a little bit of experience with CRB disclosures
Please be aware that your CRB disclosure may not necessarily be 'portable' and if you apply for a new job which requires one you can be asked to get another new one!
When you apply for the disclosure, you will get a copy for yourself, and your new employer will also get one, but they are not really supposed to keep their copy for longer than is necessary (ie after taking all the relative details from it)
Have you already got the job or just applied for it?
I'm not sure I would want to pay £50.00 for a CRB check if I didn't definitely have the job!!
