they dont match online unless the dealer has a high street shop. they also add the cost of delivery to the match if the other dealer charges for it even if JL dont charge.
They will even match their own stores if the other store has say a managers special etc. or has lowered a price to beat a rival in their area. They even match richer sounds.
I bought a what tv mag once and scoured it for a TV that JL had, I found one store miles away who gave me a price. I showed the mag to an advisor and told him the price, who took the mag to an office and got someone to ring them up. A different price was given, much dearer, no deal so I rang them again and was given the lower price, again JL rang them and again a different price was given, no deal.
In the end I rang them and used the speaker phone so the advisor could hear me, the lower price was given and a a price match agreed after they rang again but he asked if there was a delivery charge made by the other retailer which there was and they added it on. Saved around £200 but it was hard and i felt like a begger.0 -
thats because when John Lewis phone they announce that it is John Lewis and are asking for a price. Therefore the retailer knows this is going to be a no sale call and as such mostly won't want to play ball.
I did this for a video camera a few years ago and as JL caled on three occasisons and didn't get the same price i did I took the camera back to the store for a full refund.Mark Hughes' blue and white army0 -

I'm astonished what numpty's the other stores are. If I was on the other end of the line, I would quote an extra-low price to John Lewis, so they would make a loss on the deal and maybe even put their prices down generally for that item. There's nothing like messing the opposition up.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
