Sugar rockets in price!

Anyone noticed this? Sainsburys had a third off their Billingtons Light and dark muscavado but I see it's gone up to £1.40 but it's the Golden caster that's really taken off. It was £1.44 for ages but I noticed in Pepper Hill store that it was £2.10!!! According to the website it seems to have fallen back to £1.90 now but it's still risen by a third or so. I know sugar has risen in price globally but it's still galling to see it finally filter through to the shelf

probably because it Christmas and the big shops know that folk want to buy it for cake making I try to stock up on things like that after the holiday as if its stored in dry conditions sugar won't go off

I know this will be an unpopular opinion but I'm pleased the price of sugar is going up. I hope that if all those baked goods and sugary confections go up in price, people will consume less of them and the obesity and diabetes rates will fall.
