Remortgage with defaulted debts

Hi

I've also posted on mortgage board.....appreciate any help

I need some pointers on remortgaging cos i am in a bit of a tangle
I am on a horrendous together mortgage form Northern rock with current interest of 7% APR.
all payments to NR are up to date.
I have not defaulted (yet) on the unsecured part as it is in joint names. however we are only paying interest only at the moment to try and get DF.

Now where i need help is 1. where should i go to look at remortgaging the secured part (78%)
2. how do i untangle my together mortgage so i can do reduced payments on the unsecured part.

would really appreciate any advice on what to do now (also posted on DFW)

thanks
