Do I need a new mattress?

Options
Hi,

I'm on a really low budget :( and need to know if I need to replace my mattress.
It's not uncomfortable but if you move on it the springs make a lot of noise. I've only just discovered it to be a problem  because when I'm alone I sleep like a baby and don't move a muscle but my boyfriend has started to stay for sleep-overs and with the additional fidgetting etc I noticed you can't move without some noise. :A

Having inspected the mattress it appears to be ok (not out of shape) but I'm worried it might disturb my housemates.

Does the noise mean I need a new mattress? If I purchase a mattress topper would it resolve the problem with less expense given my budget?

I'd be grateful if anyone could advise!

Many thanks :T

Perhaps you should ask your housemates. What you can hear in your room in the dead of night is not necessarily a noise that transmits through the walls of the house to disturb them. If the bed is comfortable and not disturbing them, why spend the money?

if the mattress itself is clean and sound - try a 'mattress topper'? I had one when my old mattress was way 'past it'! and I couldnt afford a new one! I think it cost me £30 for a memory foam topper and it was fabulous! me and oh loved it, so when we could afford it we bought a memory foam mattress bed.
(yes - it does a lot to muffle squeeky old mattress springs!)
and the topper got passed on to son - and I think that 2 years later its still on thier bed.

If the mattress is wrecked a topper won't fix it as it should only top a decent mattress. If it isn't wrecked then that might be an idea. If you're sleeping well and don't have bachache then you should be fine as you are. I doubt if the noise travels as far as you think. :)

ooh, I think at the dead of night, the noise will travel a lot further than you think, and in honesty, you will be tossing and turning (everybody does, its natural) while youre asleep, the noise will still be happening, its just that youre asleep and you dont hear it. Hopefully, by that time, everyone else is asleep too.:D

By the way, babies move lots and lots of times during their sleep time.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
