Experian - long but please HELP!

Just after some advice here, my OH is under the impression that someone is using his name since we have had some very strange post appearing recently, such as TSB thinking he was moving and there being a block on his account which means he can't apply for credit or even an overdraft.
Anyway, he rang Lloyds TSB, who couldn't tell him why there was a block on his account and advised applying for a credit report from Experian. SO, he did... got on the phone, went through all the options, got hold of an advisor, and went all through his details, spelling out the long complicated words in our previous address and getting all hot under the collar because they kept putting him on hold.
Eventually, he was asked for his debit card number for the £2.50 charge, so he read out the numbers...... 'Sorry, that card doesn't exist. In fact, we don't think you exist. You aren't on the electoral roll'
But he is because I badgered him into signing the form myself and he received a polling card the other day! (Scottish elections). We've lived here for eighteen months and he was even registered to vote at our last address......
Has anyone else had this problem? And is he going to have the same problem if he tries Equifax or the other one that can't remember the name of at the moment...?

I dont think this has got any replies yet because it is so unusual.
i dont have any 'experienced advise' but this is what id do.
monday, go to your council or who ever deals with your electoral role and get it in writing that you are on there. then, take that to experian so you have proof. it is their fault if they have got something wrong, not yours, remember that.
if you are not on the register then investigate backwards from there. keep a trak of all phone calls and letters in a diary, and names of people you have spoken to.
because this is so unusual I think it may take a while to sort out, but as long as you are thorough, and logical about everything it will be sorted in the end. I mean, he's standing next to you right? he must exist!!
o, also, badger lloyds to tell you why there is a block on the account. They HAVE to know, I mean they are stopping him from doing so much by putting that on there. dont rest until you have an answer from them either.
does all that make sense?Mummy to two girls, 4 & 1, been at home for four years, struggling to contend with the terrifying thought of returning to work.0 -
Hi Poppy - I haven't had that problem, myself, but Indentity Theft is fraud and should be reported to the police.
Also, if he is unhappy with Experian, or ANY of the details that they hold on him, he should write to them.
Has he tried getting his credit report 'on-line', rather than over the phone?
Also, could he try one of the other Credit Reference Agencies?I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

thanks for the replies liz and rog...
Thanks for the suggestion about the council Liz, he does actually have a voting card sitting on the shelf, do you think Experian would accept that?
Thanks for your suggestiongs too Rog. Yes, he did try and do his report online, halfway through, there is a screen coming up saying 'there is a problem with your order, please ring.....'. So he did...... and got the same reply. They also denied that there was any such thing as a 30 day free trial!
btw we got the moving letter problem sorted, got a grovelling letter from lloyds this morning saying it was human error...
its really weird living with someone who apparently doesn't exist! :eek:DFW Nerd no 239.....Last Personal Debt paid off Nov 2012!

Poppy, anything at this point would be useful, why not photocopy the voting card and have that copy ready when he next calls experian. then he can say, 'its in my hand Ill fax it over to you'.Mummy to two girls, 4 & 1, been at home for four years, struggling to contend with the terrifying thought of returning to work.0

Do you live in a house that is under six months old?
Could be experian has an old copy of the postcode register (what-its-name) and your house hasn't made it on there yet.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Hi Poppy, I've recently had problems with the Electoral Role. When my election card comes it always has my address stated incorrectly, this has happened for many years. Every year I have written to Electoral Role Department and the following year the card comes again and my address is still incorrect. This year I contacted the Electoral Role Department via e-mail (you should have a 'contact us' page on your local councils website) and they changed my address so it is now registered correctly.
However, when I got my credit report it stated that I'd only been living at my current address for a few months (when I have been here for 9 years). It turns out that when the ER dept changed my address it registered that I had moved to this new address.
I contacted the ER department who put it in writing the changes that she'd made and tole me to forward it onto the credit reference agency with a covering letter. I did this and have a letter confirming it is now correct.
Firstly get a letter off the ER dept stating that you OH has lived where he says he has for the time stated and forward it with a covering letter to Experian. It's not going to get sorted overnight, but give it 2-4 weeks and it should be ironed out.0
