Well done to everybody on progress so far. Welcome mrsdriver and bear up nikki, ginger helps, so they say (ginger ale, ginger biscuits, anything really).

Feb more or less done, a few more deposits in relatively smaller amounts brings me to £890, £390 ahead of target so I'm pretty pleased as I hadn't thought it would add up to so much. Being self employed it's pretty unpredictable so I'd rather be ahead in case earnings drop later on.
  • Roll on Friday!! Will be March already though ! Time flying just now. March looks to be able to get my saving on track, will be upto over £4k by end of it, saving the same in march I did in January and febuary combined. So will hit halfway of first target and quater mark of big £20k target when I hit the £5k mark in April! Bring it on!

  • Just did my Feb update: Saved another 399.63 putting the total to 1030.61. So ahead of target BUT it's getting more difficult as I'm now paying off my kitchen, have a car service due this month etc etc.

Also my mum told me about Steradent tubes (the cleaning tablets for false teeth - other makes are available lol ) she used to give me the empty tubes and they hold £55 if full

Good idea. Not that I would have any use for buying steradent tablets, although apparently they are good for cleaning cups with tea stains! I just threw out a Mr M's own brand berocca tube, that would have done the job. Darn.

I haven't got into the whole pay myself first thing, I just don't know whether I would be able to manage it that well really. I'm worried that i'll pay over too much of my wages and run out before the end of the month, when I know that I'm still young enough to want to and be able to enjoy myself.

I have no life outside of home and work. Also I am 21 (+14) so I have been working on budgets for a long time ;)

[STRIKE]Alcoholic[/STRIKE] ginger beer! Also flat coke and plain biscuits like rich tea or digestive. Hope it doesn't last too long for you.

Supposed to be payday today and I am mega busy (fitting this into my micro lunch time today). Hopefully will get time to do the wages later. Wanted to do them this morning :( May be back later if I get a slow bit!

Well I'm very pleased to say I've saved £1606 in February which will make my sig look a lot better! I've also been paying off the virgin 0% card as although the rate holds til June, the thought of having 'debt' is very uncomfortable.

Have also bought most of son's summer clothes on ebay by making low bids and keeping fingers crossed! Have got lots to sell so must get on with that.

    Happy saving everyone.

Well, eventually got paid yesterday. Have transferred all the "excess" funds to savings. I am just going to wait until 28th for my SO to go to the regular saver before I declare February but I have almost doubled my target for the month.

I have spent years scrimping, living lower than the breadline and paying off debt. It really does look like things are on the up. I feel quite emotional :o

This month I tried my regular approach at saving; saving what's left at the end of the month. This time I was aware of every purchase I made and the thought process behind it. It was my daughter birthday and rather thinking 'right I have X to spend' I was thinking 'I'll buy what I need then save the rest'. I needed to do this to change not only my spending habits but my thought process.

8 months ago I paid myself first and managed to save £3k in 2 months. So next month I'm paying myself first, as soon as I'm paid I'll transfer it over. Out of sight, out of mind :D
